This is a sketch I did at the German Comic Con in Dortmund. I went there because I was supposed to hold a drawing workshop. A Comic Con is not quite my scene. I am not into superheroes, I like certain animes but I am no expert.

I actually asked the girl if I could draw her, because she sat down very close to me for a break before she went to the stage of the Cosplayer Award and I didn´t want to offend her staring at her. Unfortunately I didn´t get the name of her character, something with Lou but I am not sure. The costume looked really great, I hope she won something with it.

I didn´t take a picture, because I always had the feeling that these events consist of middle aged men like myself taking pictures of scarcely clad teenage girls, in this case I regretted that, because the colored version of the same drawing I did afterwards is very much guesswork. I didn´t get that she was wearing hot pants (and a lot of other details because she was sitting down).

I travelled home by train from Dortmund that evening and after all the costumes all the people in the train seemed suddenly very grey….

The drawing on the left is foutain pen in my sketchbook, the drawing on the right is the same drawing coloured digitally.

Frankfurt Bookfair 2015 sketches I

A sketch I did at the Frankfurt Bookfair showing the two most renown Indonesian poets (unfortunatly the names escape me….probably Subagio Sastrowardoyon and Toeti Heraty). I know nothing about Indonesian literature, I am afraid We drew a lot especially on the last day. More to come….

Polizisten Frankfurt

Two policemen I drew in Frankfurt during the Frankfurt book fair. They were the only ones who didn´t move. The policemen seemed to be quite relaxed, probably they were happy that they had to look after book lovers rather than hooligans. These two were actually flirting. This a very rough sketch, but that is what I like about it.

Kölner Dom/ Cologne Cathedral

A drawing I did during a lunch break at the Solution Space (an office building right next to the Cologne Cathedral). What is weird that you need some distance to actually “see” the cathedral, which most people don´t realize, because they are using the wide angle lenses of their cameras anyway. If you don´t see the whole structure, which you can´t from this the elements get quite confusing. So this is kind of an honest view of the Cologne cathedral….

Holiday in Cologne

This looks like the sketches I do when I am on holiday. Unfortunately I am not. but the people I drew were. This was made near the Schokoladenmuseum (chocolate museum, for those who haven´t guessed) which is one of the most touristy areas of Cologne. It has big advantages for sketching, you won´t meet people you know and everyone is moving in a different space time continuum (a very slow one, which is good for watching people) . But a nightmare if you´re in a hurry trying to cross that area by bike.
